Frequently Asked Questions

  • If your child is showing signs of frustration, having difficulty communicating their wants and needs through gestures or words, or struggling to interact effectively with others, it may be beneficial to schedule a speech and language evaluation. Early support can help children build communication skills, reduce frustration, and gain confidence in expressing themselves.

  • There is no difference — they are the same profession. “Speech-Language Pathologist” (SLP) is the official professional title preferred by ASHA because we treat language and communication skills in addition to speech.

  • Speech therapy focuses on the mechanics of communication, including articulation, fluency, voice, and oral motor skills.

Language therapy focuses on understanding and using words meaningfully, including following directions, building vocabulary, combining words and forming sentences, and developing social communication skills.

  • Child-led play follows the child’s interests to build motivation, connection, and spontaneous communication.  Adult-led play uses more structured activities to target specific speech and language goals.

At Little Tides Speech, we strive to create a balanced approach that incorporates both styles of learning and interaction.

  • Unfortunately, no, not at this time.

Little Tides Speech is considered out-of-network with insurance companies. However, we can provide a monthly superbill for families seeking reimbursement for out-of-network speech therapy services.

  • Little Tides offers two service options:

    • In-home therapy services, where children learn and practice skills within their natural environment and daily routines within the south jersey shore and surrounding areas.

    • Online parent coaching, where caregivers receive practical strategies to support communication, regulation, and skill development throughout their everyday activities.

  • No, you do not need a formal diagnosis to receive speech therapy services. If you or your doctor suspect a delay in speech or language, it is best to see a speech language pathologist to identify any delays or impairments.

Speech-language therapy can be provided based on communication needs alone, including challenges with language, speech sounds, social communication, or overall developmental communication skills.

Testimonials

When my granddaughter was two she was misdiagnosed as a child on the autism spectrum. This happened basically because she wouldn’t speak to doctor doing the evaluation and she was not meeting the conventional speech milestones. As a former special needs teacher I didn’t agree with the diagnosis so we reached out to Early Intervention . This is how we were lucky enough to work with Erin. She was not only professional but she was kind, engaging and supportive of my granddaughter and the whole family.Through her work with my granddaughter and an extremely helpful home program she developed for us, my grandchild flourished and has grown into a happy, healthy, talkative child. Any family would be lucky to have Erin as their therapist!

Little Tides Founder
Erin Mosher M.S CCC-SLP

Helping children build communication skills through play, music, movement, and meaningful connection. These approaches support engagement and meaningful communication. I look forward to working with you!

Erin is a speech-language pathologist and founder of Little Tides Speech Therapy.  Her work is shaped by nearly three decades on stage as a professional actress and vocalist—an immersive, lifelong practice in voice, expression, and human connection—woven together with a strong foundation in evidence-based speech and language therapy.

Her sessions are thoughtfully designed around core principles of speech science.  Rather than clinical or rigid, these strategies are naturally embedded into play and connection.  She supports receptive language development by helping children connect words with objects, actions, routines, and everyday experiences through repetition, visual supports, gesture pairing, and play-based interaction. To build expressive communication, Erin uses strategies such as modeling, intentional pauses and withholding, cuing, and phrase expansion to encourage children imitate, and then initiate words and phrases independently with increasing confidence.

Music, movement, sensory experiences, and imaginative play are used throughout sessions to support engagement, regulation, and meaningful communication.  Erin’s integration of performance and clinical practice is grounded in evidence.  Research shows that children learn best when they are emotionally connected, physically engaged, and actively participating. Erin’s background allows her to meet children in that space, creating sessions that are dynamic, nurturing, and tailored to each child’s individual learning style.

The result is therapy that feels like play—but is grounded in purposeful, measurable progress.
